Summary of Internal Investigation – Discriminatory Hiring Action By Senior OIG Staff (2015-2016)
Report Information
Summary
The OIG’s then Analysis and Oversight Division conducted an internal investigation concerning allegations of misconduct by OIG employees. This investigation found that the OIG did not select an applicant for an open position on the basis of the applicant’s disability. Comments made by one senior executive created the perception that management did not want to hire a person with a disability, and multiple senior leaders failed repeatedly to correct the initial act of discrimination. Since this report’s issuance, the applicant was fully compensated and the three employees who failed to take proper action are no longer employed by the OIG. One of the employees filed a successful appeal with the MSPB regarding the allegations described in the report. To promote transparency and accountability, the OIG publishes summaries of internal investigations concerning allegations of misconduct by its senior personnel. Summary information released is consistent with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
