Summary

Summary
The purpose of this review was to determine the validity of three allegations; excessive wait times for radiology biopsies and cardiac catheterizations; radiology biopsy sedation and adequate recovery time; and radiology biopsies performed by non- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified staff. We did not substantiate these allegations. The Malcom Randall VA Medical Center (medical center) had processes in place to ensure that radiology biopsies and cardiac catheterizations were performed within a reasonable timeframe. The facility had an appropriate moderate sedation policy and patients who required sedation were appropriately observed and discharged. In addition, we found that radiology biopsy staff had appropriate BLS and ACLS certifications. Therefore, we made no recommendations.
