Darryl Lamont Young and Aqeelah Ngiesha Williams were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, six counts of wire fraud for phone calls made via wire to various VA medical centers across the country, and six counts of aggravated identity theft for their possession or use of personal information from the victims for fraud. While incarcerated, Young, a veteran, used the jail phone system to place calls to veterans’ facilities. He posed as a VA employee, gained information about family members, and then recruited Williams to assist in getting veterans’ account information and stealing from those accounts. More than 60 victims lost $8,000 in this scheme. The VA OIG and the US Secret Service investigated this case.
